Bedding Lime Brings Peace of Mind

Farmers are advised to look for alternative livestock bedding products after the Health and Safety Executive Northern Ireland (HSENI) issued a stern warning, not to use gypsum as livestock bedding.

Farm week reports; “Using Gypsum as livestock bedding is an offense – and could possibly have lethal consequences.”

The Northern Ireland Environment Agency (NIEA) says it will not authorise the use of gypsum for bedding until there is clear scientific evidence to demonstrate it does not pose risk to animals, humans or the environment from hydrogen and sulphide generation.

CubiCAL and MasterCAL products are an ideal alternative to gypsum, offering a range of benefits.

CubiCAL is a unique product designed for dairy and beef livestock bedding applications whilst MasterCAL, for use in livestock stalls, has been specially formulated to provide high levels of protection against bacteria.

Both CubiCAL and MasterCAL will inhibit the growth of pathogenic bacteria present in livestock cubicles, and can aid prevention of environmental mastitis whilst raising the pH value of farm effluents. As stall waste can be spread on croplands, CubiCAL has additional value as a source of aglime.
