An external render is, in its most basic form, is a coating applied to the walls of a building, to provide a protective coating which prevents rain penetration. It also acts as a decorative finish to enhance the appearance of a building.

Rendering is a traditional craft that has evolved over many centuries. Basic render was formed from Clay or Lime Binders. However these materials had one major disadvantage - they were not very resistant to water.

The introduction of cement into the building industry meant that durable mortars could be manufactured and weather resistant renders resulted. Through the years technological advances have aided the development of cutting edge render systems that aim to improve the longevity of a buildings structural capacity.

K Rend Renders are developed and manufactured at our HQ in Larne, Northern Ireland. The K Rend silicone range incorporates silicone water repellents as part of the cement based render system. This silicone technology imparts a high degree of water repellency to the render surface whilst allowing water vapour to pass through the render allowing the substrate to breathe. The water repellent surface ensures a freshly rendered appearance for a prolonged period. The finish is drier and thus more resistant to algae growth and the phenomenon of limebloom.
